Río Toro Refuge

Hooded Grebe Foundation
DESCRIPTION: Located at the mouth of the Río Toro in the Río de las Vueltas, about 30 km north of El Chaltén, this refuge functions as a satellite biological station. The refuge is part of a collaborative project with Ea. Río Toro and was built in 2020, adding to our work to restore the Río de las Vueltas/Lago del Desierto basin, and to the effort of volunteers who, like us, work to conserve and protect these valleys and the species that inhabit them.
OBJECTIVES: It constitutes a base for all field activities in the northern and central part of the Río de las Vueltas basin: from control of invasive species, bird monitoring, river surveys, environmental education and activities of the Comprehensive Conservation Course. From here we also give support to collaborators and government agencies for actions in the territory.
