Hooded Grebe Foundation

Mauricio Rumboll Refuge

Hooded Grebe Foundation
DESCRIPTION: Installed through an agreement made with Ea. Cerro Bayo. Located in the historic Laguna del Islote (or del Medio) and 1100 meters above sea level in one of the highest parts of the Strobel Lake plateau. This lagoon was historically one of the most important for the Hooded Grebe, housing more than 1000 individuals in the 1980s, and a site of great concentration of birds. During the 2000s it was sown with rainbow trout, so the conditions of this body of water changed. Since 2010, the Hooded Grebe Project has monitored and begun to work on the management of salmonids on the Strobel plateau with special emphasis on this some. With the support of Estancia Cerro Bayo, roads of the province of Santa Cruz, the Secretary of Environment of Santa Cruz and the Sella, the construction of the shelter next to this great lagoon was completed.
OBJECTIVES: This workstation was created to facilitate the stay in the Laguna de El Islote for prolonged periods and thus be able to intensify the restoration tasks, as well as the monitoring of the bird and limnological community.
